After plugging in PS3IR-PRO and entering programing mode I get the following error from Windows:

"Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while trying to install it. Schmartz Bootloader. This device cannot start. (Code 10)"

This is happening on my PC as well as my lapotp, same exact error. Starting to get very frustrated that I cannot update the firmware, as that is supposed to be the best feature of this product. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I am using Vista 32-bit.

It sounds like the driver files are not installed. To fix this I would reccomend the following steps:

1. Make sure you have unzipped the firmware update tool files to a directory called Schmartz_Firmware_Update_Tool for example.

2. Make sure your remote is set to send the IR command set for the PS3IR-PRO. You can do this by making the PS3 the active device.

3. Right click on My Computer then click on Manage and finally click on the Device Manager under the System Tools entry.

4. Plug in the PS3IR-PRO into any available USB port on your PC where you unzipped the Firmware Update Tool

5. With your remote pointed at the IR port on the front of the PRO, select the Firmware Update mode as follows: For all versions before V1.6, press the one "1" button twice and then press and hold ONLY the down direction arrow button for 14 seconds. For V1.6, press the one "1" button twice within 14 seconds after plugging in the PRO.

6. At this point, a device called SCHMARTZ Bootloader should appear in the list of Universal Serial Bus Controller devices. This list is usually located at the very bottom of the device manager display area. The device may have a yellow Bang! next to it.

7. Right click on the SCHMARTZ Bootloader device and select UNINSTALL.

8. Select "Scan for hardware changes" under the Action menu of the device manager Menu.

9. The "Found New Hardware Wizard" should pop up. It may actually be hidden behind other windows.

10. Select "Install from a list or specific location (advanced)"  and click Next.

11. Browse to the folder where you saved the firmware update tool and click OK and then Next.

12. Click "Continue Anyway" on the pop up dialog. (Again, this may be hidden behind other windows).

13. The driver will load then, Click on Finish.

14. You should now see the SCHMARTZ Bootloader  device in the list without a yellow Bang!

15. Whew! You are done.

You wouldn't happen to be running an x64 bit version of Vista would you? I wouldn't expect the driver to work in that case.

Gotta love Microsoft... You might try manually copying the .INF file in the windows WINDOWS\system32\INF folder and the .sys file in the WINDOWS\system32\drivers folder.

Does the device show up as VID/PID 0/0?

The device shows up as the loader, but I think the VID line is in the description under properties. Can I get the chip swapped out since I have an older one? 'll do it myself, shouldn't be a big deal.

Mike I have sent you a couple of emails with the steps I have taken along with a few screen caps of the errors.  I forgot to tell you that I was able to upgrade the FW a few weeks ago to 1.02, and the device still works with my PS3, I just cannot get windows to properly load the drivers since the first FW upgrade.

Actually I can fix it by flashing it here in the lab. It takes a special programmer though.

I have a master list of about 12 units that need to be swaped out. I am sending out two at a time and moving through this list. When I get the units back I upate them and send to the next person on the list This way you don't have to be without a way to control your PS3.

If you want to expedite the process, you can go ahead and send it in. I will turn it around the same day I receive it and send it back via UPS ground at no cost to you.  Smiley

It depends on how fast everyone send theirs back. Probably 4 weeks or so.
