It may have been the sweet spot in terms of price, but that is no longer the case for us. We have moved manufacturing here to Texas, and that has changed the manufacturing costs. Also, we need to be able to support our growing customer base, and that adds to the cost as well. Except when golfing and sometimes even then, we still answer the phones directly without the need to navigate through menus. "If you are human, press 1... Your estimated wait time is four months..."
So, from our perspective, the 500 no longer makes economic sense.
