The Ps3IR+PWR has been discontinued
« on: April 24, 2008, 10:18:10 PM »
As of PS3 firmware release V2.2, Sony no longer supplies power to the USB port during standby. Rats! :(

Don't forget to enter your coupon if you order the new PRO model and you own a PS3IR+PWR. It's good for $15 off!

Will this device still work as a PS3IR if I simply cut the wire off of the circuit board?

I'm pretty sure it would function like the normal PS3IRX1 if you cut off the wire, but why do that?  You should still be able to power the unit off with yours, you just won't be able to turn it on.  Also, there is a good chance that Sony might end up turning power to the USB ports back on in a future update, so I wouldn't bother to cut the wire if it were mine.
For help setting up your Harmony remote feel free to send me a PM.

Include your model of remote, inputs settings for your TV, AV Receiver, etc., and any other setup requests.  I will also need your Harmony Login name and password (I recommend changing your password temporarily to 12345).

I've been using the PS3IR+PWR for a few months, and up until a week ago, it was working great. Now, the power off function only works about 50% of the time. I can point the remote from one position, and it will not work, then try it again from the same position and it will. Is it possible over time, that the connection can become flaky? I haven't tried to reposition the copper strips yet. Anybody have an idea? My PRO can't get here fast enough!

I already have the Pro on the way for my personal setup so the power is fine.  I never actually setup the +PWR so it is brand new and I would be willing to sell it to one of my customers as a PS3IR if I can simply remove the wires.  I do not want to have a part that does not work - even if it may do so at a later time - on a device I resell.

Yes, but I agree that someday soon Sony may get the USB power turned back on.

thanks Mike - I just wanted to know my options with it.  I will not cut it off unless it comes down to it.  Heck - I may even just coil it up and secure it to the bottom of the PS3 in case it is needed in the future
