Problem with Harmony 890 and newly received PS3IRX1
« on: December 04, 2008, 08:46:20 PM »
I just today received the PS3IRX1.  Installed it, updated Harmony 690, things seem to work fine.  EXCEPT-

When I go to the Options window on the PS3 and use the Harmony right, left,up, or down buttons the cursor moves 3 spaces instead of 1.  I have changed the repeat from 3 to 0 and then to 1, and it still does the same thing.

Can someone help with this??

Did you make sure to set it up to only use the base station, or the remote?  Sometimes devices end up seeing the IR signals from both the base station and the remote and it will cause extra command responses.

Are you using the Sony PlayStation 3 device or the Schamrtz PS3IR-X1 device in the Harmony library?

If you are using the PS3IR-X1 device and have changed your repeats to 0 then you may have a faulty unit.

For help setting up your Harmony remote feel free to send me a PM.

Include your model of remote, inputs settings for your TV, AV Receiver, etc., and any other setup requests.  I will also need your Harmony Login name and password (I recommend changing your password temporarily to 12345).

I am using the Schmartz device from the Harmony library, not the PS3.

I don't understand what you mean about the base station vs the remote.  I have the Harmony 890 so I had to stick the IR emitter on the PS3IRX1 device to make it work.  The PS3 is in another room from my home theater.

I changed the repeats to 0 and 1 both.  Same response both times, each push of the arrow button moves the cursor exactly 3 positions.

The base station is the part that you hook up the emitters to.  Since you said your PS3 is in a different room then it can't be receiving signals from both the remote and the base station.  However, the base station has an emitter built into it, as well as the emitters that you attach to your different devices.  It could be that the PS3IR-X1 is seeing the IR signal from the base station and from the emitter and interpreting that as two button presses.  In the Harmony software I believe there is a way to assign a device to a certain emmitter port, did you make sure to do that with your PS3IR-X1 device?

I'm sorry I don't have that much experience using the 890 and base station, so I'm not all that familiar with the settings.

I went in and assigned a specific emitter port (c) to the Schmartz, changing it from (all).  This seems to help some, but the arrows are still erratic.  Sometimes the cursor moves 1 space, other times 3.  Better, but not fixed.

Might it be a defective PS3IRX1?  If so, who do I contact for a replacement?
